about

Silk Textures' milestone 20th label release is a single by new label addition Butter & Parsley. You could know this guy under alias "Espen". Espen Gulbrandsen has been a master of progressive genre starting from early 2000's and is still in a great shape. A classic house groove gets the track out of the gate, with a single-note arp and a central melodic motif soon to follow. The track very subtlely begins to crescendo, with atmospheric pads and various other effects creeping into the mix. Last but not least, a lovely piano chord progression enhances the mid-range. In the final turn of the track, a well-deserved note change in the bassline provides a cathartic release.

Shane Robinson, another relative newcomer on the scene, offers two visionary intepretations. The first ("Sunrise" Remix), begins with a layered bass and a few dynamic pads. Soon thereafter, though, a variety of gorgeous arps take hold of the tune, coinciding with a more dynamic bassline note progression. In the break, beautiful strings and a gorgeous lead synth motif are solo'ed, with a stripped down beat carrying the tune to the drop. His "After Dark" interpretation, as expected, is much deeper and more subdued, evident from the onset of the tune by the cavernous atmospheric effects. A few funky synths add some melodic texture, but the focus here is clearly evoking a sense of subterranean escape in the listener -- indeed, well executed.

Russian act Technical Lovers, who have now well established themselves as go-to artists on the label, provide a brilliant finale. Like, the original, a "classic," sexy deep house rhythm set the tune off on an upbeat note, as subtle synth stabs and gurgling bass enter the fray. Around the quarter turn, a jazzy lead element begins to develop, and it continues to crescendo throughout the tune. Later on, we are treated to some of the original elements, including the lovely piano layer.
