about

We are thrilled to officially welcome rising London-based talent djimboh to our stable; his lush, atmospheric productions have regularly graced our radio show playlists since the beginning of 2020, so it’s a special privilege to release his deep-progressive “Imprints” EP on our label.

The release title cut (“Imprints”) kicks off with djimboh’s (signature) deep, yet driving groove. Indeed, the tension between the energetic rhythm and delicate, crystalline melodic themes proves intoxicating from the song’s earliest moments. As the song approaches the main breakdown, the arrangement continues to crescendo, as layer upon layer of mellifluous and poignant synth lines imbue the soundscape. Suddenly, the beats drop out, leaving the song’s main bell-tinged melody to stand out on it own. An array of celestial pads, a heavenly female vocal accent, and series of fluttering side melodies also arrive later in the breakdown; ultimately, the levee breaks, unleashing the powerful groove one last time in the drop section to triumphant effect.

The life-affirming “Think You Are” is another glorious offering from djimboh. A variety of wistful melodies emanate from the song’s fragile framework, which is bolstered by an especially resonant series of low-end bass swells. Meanwhile, the titular vocal hook, which faintly echoes in the background, evokes a sense of nostalgia for the carefree days of youth. The radiant melodies in the song’s closing minutes remind us to remain present and grateful for even a few fleeting moments of joy and peace.

Closing out the EP, “Orla” basks in the transient beauty of the human experience. The sonic tapestry of the composition includes layered bell and synth themes, as well as an array of affecting vocal “oohs” and “ahhs.” By the song’s conclusion, the stirring melodic elements have effectively salved the listener’s deepest emotional wounds.
