Talented label newcomers Fløa and Idy Ramy, both hailing from the Russian city of Kazan, present “Light Above Us,” a breathtaking, two-track deep house EP.

The title cut quickly introduces a deep rhythm section, including a variety of reverb-intensive percussive elements, which evoke a cavernous aura. Further reinforcing the foreboding mood, a suspenseful arp line and dark bassline join the mix, as the arrangement continues to patiently crescendo. In the main breakdown, the listener is treated to an especially memorable climax: a full chorus, in which the titular lyric appears, as well as a variety of other emotionally incisive hooks. In the drop to follow, the aural tension is released by the reemergence of the head bop-inducing main groove.

The equally gorgeous B-side tune, “Cant Be Broken,” also conjures a subterranean soundscape. Throughout the arrangement, a hypnotic arp line weaves in and out of a broken-beat groove, while a resonant and full-bodied bass progression provides a robust low-end presence, to truly mesmerizing effect. Another unforgettable vocal performance — equal parts moody and poignant — arrives in the main breakdown, culminating in the titular refrain. No doubt that Fløa and Idy Ramy ‘can’t be broken” and will continue to impress global audiences in the emotive deep and progressive house niche for many years to come.
