After a three-month hiatus, Silk Sofa proudly returns with the "Salmonella" EP, featuring three strong electronica pieces by Russian artist Alex Rize. The first one, "Aquaque", begins with a lush atmosphere and tweaky, sweeping synths; soon thereafter, it is accompanied by a groovy bassline and rather interesting breakbeat percussion elements. More great melodies appear later in the track, such as the harmonious rhodes synth, while the beat develops into a 4/4 pattern, with a neat cymbal ride on top. The title track, "Salmonella", starts off by introducing soothing pad lines and dominating bass notes. Also in this track we witness amazing percussion work and synth processing that really create a unique and mesmerizing soundscape. Rounding out the package is the groovy piece "Statik Patterns". As the stunningly rhythmic bassline develops, pads emerge and other variations are added as well; their structure and liveliness are, as the title implies, the epitome of "statik patterns". The energy reaches its zenith at the 5-minute mark, when all of the melodies coalesce as the newly-added ride provides an extra kick.
