about

Arrival's 19th label release features a new addition to its imprint, Rainbow Addict, a.k.a. Van Ilyin. Hailing from Moscow, this very talented artist seems to draw upon the rich tradition of melodic progressive house in that city, with two beautiful originals (the first of which also receiving two splendid remixes). The Original Mix of "Solar Spin" is a cut that Silk fans might already recognize: a mixed version of the track was featured on February's "Silk Royal Showcase: 01" compilation. Now available as a full version, the track centers on an uplifting chord progression, middle-of-summer pads, and a stunning array of female vocal stabs, used in rapid succession to euphoric effect.

Rising Ukrainian artist meHiLove (Black Hole) serves up the first of two inspired interpretations. His take follows some of the original themes, re-interpreted with completely new synths and bonus melodic undertones. The result is an absolutely gorgeous melodic prog facelift to the original.

Not Okay, a duo from Lithuania who are quickly become one of the hottest new entities in the genre, serve up a quintessential peak-hour remix. Aggressive prog-tech beats and bass establish the furious tone early; the familiar main lead then begins take over the mid-range, soon joined by the resonant main chords. The break and subsequent drop, which include the echoing vox stabs from the original, will be sure to bring plenty of thrills on the dancefloor.

Rounding out the package, Rainbow Addict treats us to a second original, romantically entitled "Remembering Her Green Eyes". This one begins with subtle melodies and chords, but soon progresses into a sophisticated and visionary composition. The cinematic lead theme asserts itself in the break and really takes off post drop. at which point a lovely piano has also has been added.
