The stark landscapes and crisp climates that characterize the winter months can clarify, if not intensify, our emotions. Music released this time of year has a tendency to be especially raw and poignant, which is certainly the case for the three exceptional cuts featured on "Winter Selections 01."

The EP begins with a rework of Piramex's take on Blugazer's "Ethereal Concepts." Originally released on Silk Digital, we're thrilled to share a brand new version, featuring a soaring vocal performance by the extraordinary Royal Sapien. Appearing on Silk for the first time in nearly 5 years, we could not be more excited to welcome back the NYC-based virtuoso, a versatile talent with literally hundreds of credits to his name as a producer, songwriter, and vocalist over the past decade. Rising Russian talent Piramex kicks off the track with a furious, trance-influenced groove; at the quarter turn, we are met with Royal Sapien's central hook and lyrical motif: "Nothing matters…right now." As the track continues to crescendo, we are finally treated to the main breakdown, where Royal Sapien's full chorus is revealed. Piramex's gorgeous bassline variations and piano work, coupled with Royal Sapien's moving vocal performance, is a true release highlight.

Serbian artist D&Z is a brand new contributor to Silk. Already proving to have a refined talent for progressive electronic compositions in the "classical" tradition, D&Z is giving us plenty of reasons to have exceedingly high hopes for him this year and beyond. His "Reflections Through Time" centers on an "exotic" soundscape, rife with mesmerizing atmospheric effects and vocal echoes. Meanwhile, a peak-hour groove keeps the track chugging along, and stunning piano and synth themes enhance the already dense melodic palette.

It's a thrill to welcome back our dear friend Van Ilyin, a.k.a. Rainbow Addict, who has contributed to Silk Royal for many years now. A brilliant craftsman of mood and melody, Rainbow Addict serves up "Timbo," which begins with a suspenseful lead theme and vintage progressive house groove. Gorgeous arpeggio lines offer additional texture to the midrange. Finally, the listener reaches catharsis, as stunning new melodies and vocal effects appear in the emotive breakdown.
